Design Challenge —
How else can we showcase Philippine culture through graphic design?
Our collection revolves around two key perspectives: The iconic modes of Filipino transportation and the fun and nuance of our language.
For our first set of designs, we focused on the modes of transportation found in the Philippines. The vinta, a traditional boat from Mindanao, sails across the sea as a banner of the Filipino’s creative spirit. While our other design entitled “Lipad” features the energy and movement of people getting from point A to point B.
For our collection, we wanted to show the depth of Filipino culture that is sometimes overlooked or unnoticed. Which is why for our second set of designs, we turned to the richness of our language.
Filipino words can have many meanings. Spelled out they may look the same, but a slight change in pronunciation can change everything.
When we designed “Lobo” it was a play on the double-meaning of the word which translates to either balloon or wolf. While “Ylang-ylang” pertains to the flower and to be ilang (confused, awkward) about something.
